Freedom Scholars
We support the Freedom Scholars.
We provide financial support for the Freedom Scholars Learning Center, which provides culturally reflective educational enrichment to children and families in the City of Rochester.
Freedom Scholars Learning Center offers “Seed Sowers & Storytellers,” an afterschool program for scholars in Grades 3-6 from School #33 in the Beechwood neighborhood. This community-based program, held at St. Mark's and St. John's Episcopal Church, allows youth and neighborhood residents to work together to build collective futures and honor cultural legacies.
The Freedom Scholars’ Summer Enrichment is a 5-week academic and cultural enrichment program for children and youth in pre-K through 12th grade. A curriculum that is heavily weighted in literacy is complemented by daily discussions and celebrations of culture, social justice, civic responsibility and fun. Youth have many opportunities to develop job and leadership skills, while mentoring and being mentored. Sessions are held at Covenant United Methodist Church and St. Mark's and St. John's Episcopal Church.
The Freedom Scholars, in Partnership with School #33 PTA, hosts workshops to highlight and share the voices and expertise of parents and families from School #33.
